Diaper bag necessities

When you are out and about whether you are making a quick run to the grocery store or are shopping all day you want to be prepared for anything that may occur.  From messy diapers or spit-ups to full blown tantrums you are bound to have a surprise at one point or another while being out.  Little ones are very unpredictable so being prepared is key!  For a quick trip you will not need as much just the basics such as:

  1. Diapers (I like to keep 3 on hand at all times)
  2. Baby wipes (quite a few just in case they make messes or have a mess in their diaper)
  3. Diaper rash cream or ointment (to prevent and cure diaper rash)
  4. An extra outfit (for messes, spit up, or diaper leakage)
  5. Toys/books (these will entertain your little one while you’re out)
  6. Snacks, sippy cup/bottle (keep them full and they’ll be happy)
  7. Pacifier & pacifier wipes (if they use a pacifier) *I use organic pacifier wipes that kill bacteria but will not harm little ones 😉
  8. Tissues (for runny noses & clean up)
  9. Blanket (depends on temperature)

If you plan on being out for a while with your little one you will need to pack a little heavier because you could possibly run into a few more issues (especially if on the road for a while).  This list includes:

  1. Diapers (6 diapers)
  2. A pack of baby wipes
  3. Diaper rash cream or ointment (I usually apply this before we leave if she is going to be in her car seat for a long period of time)
  4. Two extra outfits
  5. Toys/books
  6. Snacks, sippy cups/bottles
  7. Pacifier & pacifier wipes
  8. Tissues
  9. Medicine (Motrin/Tylenol, teething tablets, etc.)
  10. Blanket (for nap)
  11. Security stuffed animal (to soothe them) *my daughter loves her stuffed lamb (Lambie) who travels with us 😉

While out for a while we usually eat somewhere too so I have not included a meal in the pack list because we feed her at the restaurant that we choose to go to but if you do not plan on stopping to eat you should add food to your diaper bag 🙂

My diaper bag is always prepared for anything that may happen during our trips.  I have experienced many messes while being out and being prepared has saved me from having a complete meltdown from some very stressful situations!
